Today, we're featuring someone very talented - she's done sewing, stamping, Copics, making SVG files, and owned retail and online business.  Wow!

Welcome to Paper Dolls! Please introduce yourself!

  Hi!  I'm Tracey from Platypus Creek Digitals! I was born in Canada, but now live in Australia, with my hubby, daughter and my very spoiled poodle. I've been involved in the papercraft industry in some form for over 13 years.

So, what got you into crafting and how did you start your business?

  I've been crafting in some form for as long as I can remember. I grew up in a rural area in Canada. All my siblings had grown up and moved out by the time I came along. So, I learned to entertain myself and craft seemed to be something I gravitated towards. Mum was always knitting or making something so I guess it was only natural that I developed an interest in craft from a young age. I moved to Australia in 1990 and continued to dabble in various crafts. When my daughter was born, I decided to be a stay at home mum. I did a lot of craft, mainly sewing and then I discovered stamping. My hobbie quickly grew into a homebased business. When my daughter started school I opened a retail shop which I had for 7 years. I made the descision to close the shop in 2006 and once again work from home. I still have my online stamping business, Platypus Creek Stamps, but earlier this year I launched my digi shop, Platypus Creek Digitals, where I sell my cutting files and digi stamps. I'm loving this new venture and I now also sell my files on two other sites. What inspires you?

  I get inspiration from many different things. Sometimes a photograph or maybe even a colour will get the creativity flowing.

When do you get to craft and design? Please tell us about your other hobbies and interests?

 Most of my creative work happens during the day. I'm definately a morning person so very rarely find myself in the craft room at night. I don't have a lot of other hobbies, as everything seems to revolve around papercraft, but I do love to travel and I love all things Disney.

 What cutter do you use and prefer?  Besides the cutter and software, what is the one MUST HAVE crafting tool?

I currently have a Cricut Expression which I mainly use with my SCAL 2 software. I started with the original Cricut but upgraded a few years ago. I will eventually have to say good bye to my Cricut and purchase another cutter. At this stage I'm still researching the various options. The other item that I use more than anything seems to be my Grand Calibur machine and Spellbinder Dies. I absolutely love working with these.

We have an announcement..

Hello, crafty friends! We have a little something to share with your all and it's not exactly good news :(

First off, we want to thank you ALL for the overwhelming support with our Paper Dolls blog! It means so much to us that so many of you support what we are doing and without you all, this blog would have never taken off. However, with mixed feelings, we've decided to close down the Paper Dolls blog.

We've both got a lot going on and more important things are being pushed back because of blog duties when they should be a priority. I'm sure most of you know that we each are married and have three children. Running the Paper Dolls blog has taken much more time from our daily lives than we thought it would.  Constant blogs posts, emails, gathering files, guest designers, etc.. along with projects we are 'required' to do weekly. I am sure you all know too well that it's VERY hard to create when you're stressed or just not in the mood to be crafty.

We had HIGH hopes to kick this blog off and get tons of traffic and interest.. and yes, it had a GREAT and very overwhelming start and we couldn't have been happier. Now we don't even have time to add new content, make new projects, etc. We're at the point where we must choose what's most important and we hope you all understand. We each have our own blogs and they have been neglected compared to how much content we would add before Paper Dolls came along.

We've thought long and hard about this and feel horrible for having to cancel so suddenly on our upcoming Featured Artists who we were so excited to work with. We have contacted them and offered these FA's to be featured on our individual blogs in return. It won't be as in depth and detailed, but we'd love to let people know about these designers! 

 
Again, this is with mixed feelings and we hate to do this, but it needs to be done. We hope there are no hard feelings and you all continue to follow our work on our personal craft blogs, Mod Paperie and Happy Life, Crafty Wife.

I (Tamara) also want to add that we each have our own design team duties as well.. Thienly is designing for My Thoughts Exactly stamps and I recently started designing for Echo Park Paper. I just want you all to know that I got this offer from EP AFTER Thienly and I decided to shut this blog down. I'm not leaving Paper Dolls to move on to other things and I would hate for anyone to think that. I also want to add that my duties for Echo Park are not as time consuming and scheduled as doing things for Paper Dolls is. I had to miss fireworks with my family on the 4th of July because I had to rush home and get a certain post done.. that's not right, you know? I know I really don't have to explain my actions, but I just don't want anyone to think anything bad. I will say that this blog was my idea and I approached Thienly about it, so the LAST thing I wanted to see happen was it to fail. (Same goes for Thienly.. we were BOTH so excited about this and it makes us very sad..)

With that said, Thienly has been AMAZING! She is on top of everything, replies to emails way more than I ever got a chance to, always knew what was going on with the designers/schedules, etc. I'm just not that organized, lol... Without her I would have gone nutso a week into this blog thing! She has also been on a schedule and I know it got stressful for her and she's neglected family time to make sure we had things done for Paper Dolls first. Many super late nights of crafting and getting things done. I pink fluffy heart love this girl! <3

Special Artist Feature - Jillian Vance - a stamp artist (and she's 11 years old!)

Hello!  We don't usually do artist features on this day, but since the PD blog is closing and she is sponsoring this week's challenge, so we wanted you all to see how amazing she is!

Please welcome Jillian Vance!!! from ajillianvancedesign.com She's only 11 years old!  How amazing is that? 

 

Jillian says, "With my mom and dad both owning businesses, I have always wanted my own.  So in January 2010, my mom purchased a Cricut machine for me to start my own Paper Crafting business at the age of 10 years old.  In 2011, I have designed my own line of clear stamps!  And now the rest is history!" 

She is a very creative young lady, and she decided to start a card business and sell them at her mom’s salon.  Then after needing sentiments that she couldn’t find anywhere, she decided to fill the niche in the clear stamp market she felt was missing. 

“There are a lot of cute stamps out there, but it is nearly impossible to find sentiments for the inside of cards, especially Christian ones .”    So, most of her sets have a reference to God, who she loves so much.  (Of course, she has lots of other ones, too!)  She also has added to her product line:  Pink Acrylic Blocks, Pear Pins ~ vintage style garment pins and coming soon -  Charming Jilly Charms for that special card or scrapbook page! 

Check out her blog, Princess and the Paper.  In addition to designing cards and stamps, Jillian loves to sing, dance and perform in local theater productions.  She lives at home with her parents and two beloved dogs, Caballo (Spanish for horse) a Great Dane and Angus, her Yorkie Poo.

Q&A: (Bunny Vance, her mother, answered for her!)

What inspires you?   She is inspired by life itself or just looking at an object!  Or sometimes her sentiments come out of thin air! I will do a card and not know what one to use and she is like picking it out for me!  Or she already has the sentiment in mind before she makes her card or project.  I am a hair designer by profession and so I have always been creative but my mom is VERY talented at all things ~ sewing, floral design, home décor, etc

When do you get to craft/design, and what are your other hobbies/interests?  Our craft room is on our main floor so it is easy to just walk in and start creating!  Most of the time, it is after dinner that we get crafty!  I love to sew, swim and snow ski, Jillian loves to Dance, sing and perform in our community Theater productions, she just finished Cinderella at 5:00 on Sunday then we headed out for CHA!  She also loves to swim!  She has two dogs, Caballo (Spanish for horse) a Great Dane and Angus, her Yorkie Poo.

What cutter do you use? and prefer? and besides the cutter and software, what is the one MUST HAVE crafting tool?  We have a Cricut Expression and a Cricut Cake that we use for paper!  I also have Make the Cut, Sure Cuts A Lot and a Gypsy.  We learned about the Cricut Craft Room at CHA and it sounds great too!  Still MTC is my favorite program to use!Jillian will tell you Tim Holtz Distress Inks is a MUST have!  WE have gone weeks without turning the cricut on.  I love Perfect Pearls Mist but you have to ink it up before you mist on the Pearls!  She got to meet him at CHA SEVERAL times, they are on a first name basis, as is Mario and Wendy Vecchi ~ we met her in Michigan at a scrapbook show.

 Hello Eleanor!  Please introduce yourself.

Hi, I'm Eleanor from SVG Shop. I'm a work at home mom to four kiddos, yes four! My life is pretty busy but I always find time for crafting.

Wow! 4 kids!  So, what got you into crafting and how did you start your business?

Like most crafters, I've always been crafty and in the early 2000's, I knew I wanted to start a crafting business. I've made everything under the sun, had various Etsy shops and in 2009 I started SVG Shop. It was actually an accident that I got into creating SVGs - I was making clipart and saving it in SVG format instead of EPS, so one day a customer wrote me saying my SVGs weren't working. That's how I found out about cutting machines and SCAL and have been addicted since. It's been a very slow start but SVG Shop is my baby and I'm glad I've stuck with it.

What inspires you?

Pretty paper is definitely my number one inspiration. I love cute things and simple designs. I've recently gotten into party planning (MG Party Impressions) and making paper stuff for parties, it's so much fun and a little frivolous so why not?

When do you get to craft/design? and let us know your other hobbies/interests?

I design whenever I get a chance, but I get more stuff done in the mornings and late at night. Some other hobbies I have are swimming, playing guitar, designing clipart, and helping my kids with their blogs. Oh yes, and baking, I love baking!

What cutter do you use and prefer?  Besides the cutter and software, what is the one MUST HAVE crafting tool?

Right now, I use my Cricut Expression with SCAL 2. I have a wishlist with both a Silhouette and an eCraft on it, SCAL 3 is already patiently waiting. The number one must have crafting tool is a double-sided tape dispenser.

Her SVGs are pretty cute and modern - and pretty versatile! A must see!  She's got 91 sets in her store,  but here's three of them!  (She has recently started designing Printable Templates, too! Cool!)

Cupcake Stands SVG Kit - These stands are adorable - wow your guests at your next party! This set includes 4 different tops with 3 different stand height options.  Her cupcake wrappers are also worthwhile to go check it out!

Friday Featured Artist - Please welcome Sarah from Pink Cricut - the amazing stamp designer!

Whoo-hoo! It's another Featured Artist Friday and we get to have someone special with us today!!! She's known for making some beautiful stamp sets (there's currently 122 items in her store!) - and even started designing some SVG sets recently to go with her stamps! (How cool is that???)

  Please introduce yourself!

Hi everyone!  Sarah from Pink Cricut here and I am so happy to be visiting the Paper Dolls today!  These 2 girls are so amazingly talented - and I love everything they do!

How did you get into crafting and how did you start your own business?

I have been crafting in someway, shape or form all of my life -- I think I was using a glue gun as soon as I could sit up! ;)  If there is something beautiful and crafty out there--I like to try to figure out how to make it myself!  My mom was very crafty as well--so I'd like to think that it was passed down to me, and I hope to pass it down to my own daughter as well.

I started scrapbooking when my daughter was born - because with her,  I had a million things that I wanted to capture and document.  However, I did not get involved in the die-cutting world or the online crafting world until April of 2010.  It didn't take me long -- I just jumped into everything I could -- with my Cricut and Gypsy closeby.  Then in July of the same year- I started Pink by Design Stamps - and released my first 5 photopolymer sentiment stamp sets. 

I started Pink by Design, because I wanted something fun and fresh as far as sentiments--and I just couldn't find what I was looking  for...That same week, I went to my first CHA and the Pink by Design line was picked up, by Oh My Crafts! and it's been busy ever since!  I release stamp sets once a month, and have also started incorporating coordinating SVG's.  We have close to 100 total stamp sets- including Sentiments, Background Stamps, and Image Stamp sets. Our style ranges from Punny and cute to Vintage and Elegant.

What inspires you??

Lots of things inspire me- my crafting friends, my children, my husband...and my life in general.  This is true for both my papercrafting and my stamp designs.  I am always changing- and trying new things, always wanting to grow and learn more!

When do you get to design and craft? Also, tell us about your other hobbies and interests.

I get to design at night mostly- when the kids have gone to bed.  Although, sometimes- my hubby will take the kids so I can get some creating time in.  I am lucky to have a husband that is so supportive of my creative wanderings. :)

When I am not papercrafting, you can find me outside with my kids- I love the sunshine!  You will also find me with a camera- snapping photos of my kids. I recently bought a dslr- and has been so much fun to learn how to use it!  If I need to relax- I like to go shopping after a short trip to Starbucks!

What cutter do you use and prefer?  Besides the cutter and software, what is the one MUST HAVE crafting tool?

The cutter I use the most is the Cricut Expression- I've tried a couple of other machines, but always tend to go back to the ol' Pink Expression!  My other MUST HAVE crafting supply other than my cutter and Pink by Design Stamps is...my ATG-- I LOVE that thing!

Flying High - this stamp set is one of the newest stamp sets coming out in her store! We got to do a sneak peek of this set on the same day she's unveiling her new sets! Aren't you girls lucky to see it first here??  What a fabulous collection!

Banner - this is another Sarah's fave, and it's a bigger stamp set (6" X 8"), so these are perfect to use on a layout or bigger projects!

 

Perk Up - this is one of her SVG sets and is her fave, mainly because she LOVES coffee, and can't live without it!  She has a matching Perk Up Stamp set and goes perfectly with this SVG Collection!  How easy is that to cut some of these elements out and stamp one of her sentiments right on it to make a card??

Week 6 Challenge ~ Medieval Castle!

Hello, everyone! We're very sorry for the day late start on this challenge.. we will let this one run an extra day so you will have plenty of time to enter! I (Tamara) do the blog posts for Monday challenges and with the holiday weekend and all, my time slipped away rather quickly with spontanious trips to the lake and such. It's been a fun and busy weekend with the family! I hope you all had a fabulous weekend!!

Anyhow, this week we've got yet another FANTASTIC file for you all! Our guest designers from last week, Suzan and RJ from Papyrus Jungle created this detailed castle file to use! Isn't it amazing? So, put your thinking caps on.. or 'crowns' in this case! lol.. and think about what you could create with THIS!

3). Post them on YOUR blog*.. click on the TITLE of your blog post you want to share and copy the link from your browser.

*You can also host them from Flickr or other hosting websites if you do not have a blog.. :)

4). Come over to Paper Dolls and share! Make sure you select the thumbnail photo you want!

5). Share about our challenge and giveaway on Facebook or your blog... pretty please?

6). If you are downloading the freebie files, but won't have time to join the challenge, it would be nice to leave a little thank-you comment to our SVG designer for this week! :)
